It’s been a busy, busy summer and fall for Team BUILD. We’re long overdue a proper status report, so here’s a rundown of what we’ve been up to the second half of 2012.
ARCHITECTing
Case Study House #1 is fresh off its Open House Party, and the place is looking slick inside and out.
And recently, we were presented with an opportunity to construct another CSH, so we took it. Case Study House #2 is wrapping up the design phase. Stay tuned for updates on the sequel.
A couple months ago, we completed the build-out of the creativeLIVE: Seattle offices, bringing a clean, modern face to a major Seattle thoroughfare.
And as the creativeLIVE empire expands, we were brought on board to design the new San Francisco outpost. More to come on this project as it develops.

Madison Park Residence is a single-family residence reusing an existing, compact foundation. The site possesses a variety of complexities including an ECA and leveraging the appropriate grandfather clauses to execute a successful project.
The Society Consulting office remodel is rounding into shape. We’re coordinating with the City and gearing up for what should be an exciting construction phase.
Permits in hand on the Nob Hill Residence, and we’re on track to begin construction in early spring.
We’re able to divulge a little more on the top secret project from our last Status Report. Permits have been issued, and construction is slated to begin any day now. Tangletown will soon be home to a hot new pizza joint opened by a well-reputed Seattle chef.
October saw the West Seattle Residence remodel kick off. Earlier this week, we checked in on the cabinets at the shop, and they were installed Wednesday. This gorgeous home overlooking the Sound will soon have stellar views both inside and out.
The Beaux-Arts Residence broke ground in July. In recent weeks the framing went up, windows went in, and roof went on. Maneuvering 60 foot roof panels on site took some teamwork and acrobatics, but they’re in and they’re sharp! Much more to come on the progress with this home.
PARTYing
We celebrated the official relocation of the SPD cabinet shop with an Open House Party on a drippy October evening. Check out Facebook for more photos.
Our first Case Study Open House happened just last week, and the folks at BLUM were on site to conduct a demo with their empathy-inducing Age Explorer Suit. Thanks to Duff for being a good sport! And if you were curious, yep, it’s identical to the Age Man suit featured on Co.Design.
PHOTOGRAPHing
The Massena Residence, completed earlier this year, is now fully furnished, landscaped and inhabited. Not to mention the neighborhood is filling out. It was time to take a few final finished photos. Check the website for the full catalog.
CONNECTing
September saw the launch of the final issue of ARCADE Volume 30, complete with a party at the expanded BelRoy Apartments. The next issue launches in a few weeks, featuring our interview with Gwendolyn Wright from Columbia University. We’ll also be featuring exclusive interview content on our blog. Mark your calendars for the 31.1 Launch event on December 7th at Q Nightclub. Subscribe and connect on Facebook for the up-to-the-moment scoop on design-minded happenings around town.

Throughout the course of the year, we’ve had the fortune to tour all three Frank Lloyd Wright-designed houses in Washington State thanks to local FLW contact, Larry Woodin. The most recent of these was in September for the Griggs Residence in Tacoma. It’s one of the more unique Wright homes and the most elusive for public tours. And lately we’ve been keeping a pulse on the active year at the Wright Conservancy. Preservation is a hot topic these days.

UPDATing
Not only did SPD relocate to a bigger, better home, it also received a full revamp of the website, complete with team profiles. And we added a new member to the shop team. Welcome, Robert! Big–huge–thanks to LiveBooks for launching their scaler websites and assisting us with the setup.
PUBLISHing
One of our very own, Mr. Duff Bangs, was published in the November/December issue of Exterieurs Design magazine, based in Paris. His modern birdhouse, first featured on the BUILD Blog, is now making its international debut!
