Innovations from the Cabinet Shop

[All photos by BUILD LLC]

Our Special Projects Division cabinet & furniture shop here in Seattle, under the skilled hands and supervision of our own David Hentzel, just completed a very striking cabinet package that’s full of slick details. While the client would like to remain anonymous, they were generous in letting us share the images and design ideas on the BUILDblog. With our expanded shop facilities we were able to assemble the cabinet package in-house; we also set up a full photo studio to get some clean shots of the project. Enjoy.

Case Study Remodel

[All photos by BUILD LLC]

BUILD LLC just wrapped up a nice remodel to a mid-century modern home north of Seattle for a couple of great friends and it’s a good time to share the results. The project was a pleasure to work on and it’s just the kind of housing type that we love applying our skills to. The residences from the 1950’s were well designed and have great bones. Now that these homes are getting up there in age, certain areas need updating.  With some strategic planning and a good system in place, the lives of these homes can be extended for another 60 years +. Intelligently remodeling an existing house to make it last for another couple of generations is also one of the most sustainable things a homeowner can do.

This couldn’t be more true than in the kitchen, where a variety of tools and utensils are required for a contemporary lifestyle, yet at the end of the day, the kitchen should be orderly and presentable.

Today’s post covers 4 important kitchen cabinet ideas that are clean, functional and meet the modern aesthetic.

Home Interventions

Sometimes the most interesting design work on a project occurs after the architect has left the scene. When the punch list is complete, after the furniture has been placed, once the owners have had a chance to kick the tires on their new home.

We noticed this on our Park Modern project and it’s a good time to give a shout-out to some design ideas that are pleasing and synergistic to the building’s architecture. They’re also great modern design elements for your own home or project.

BUILDlab: Cabinet Shop Innovations

Team BUILD recently spent some time at our SPD cabinet shop and we’ve got all kinds of design goodies to share for today’s BUILDblog post.

We’ve been designing up a custom wine rack concept that is integral to a wenge veneer cabinet package. Aluminum pipe is cut and finished smooth to create a nice clean geometry for bottle storage. It’s one of those designs where the guts looks so good that it’s hard to cover ‘em up.

Special Projects Division Cabinet Shop

We’re ready! Today marks the official launch of our new cabinet shop.  Several months ago BUILD LLC created a partnership with a master woodworker, acquired an industrial shop space and set up “Special Projects Division LLC”.  Since then we’ve knocked out a couple of sharp, modern cabinet packages and the website is ready to go public – check it out here.  Those of you on our twitter feed got a sneak peak last week.
