It’s a big day here at the BUILD World Headquarters and we’ve got some exciting news to share. Several months ago we collaborated with the talented folks over at FRANK on a documentary short film based on the work of BUILD LLC and our design inspirations. Today we’re happy to announce that the film is complete and available for your viewing pleasure. The footage dives into some of our favorite projects, allows us to speak about our design philosophy, and gives a peek at some projects that powerfully influence us. Pull up a seat and check it out here:
We’re big fans of the dynamic nature of architecture and the film does a wonderful job of capturing the movement, light and tactile qualities of design. We had a blast working with Brandon, Kevin and Melissa on the filming and we’re honored to be the focus of their hard work and expertise. We want to extend a huge thanks to our friends at Parallels for taking an interest and funding the film. It’s just extraordinary to see individuals and groups come together, get involved, and create a cultural piece like this. We’re flattered to have a role and hats off to the hard working people that made it happen.
There’s been a good buzz around the BUILD World Headquarters lately and a lot of it has to do with some excellent exposure we’ve been getting. We’re big fans of having an extroverted side to the practice –it keeps us in touch with the rest of the world, it allows us to better share ideas, it provides us with opportunities to learn from others, and it’s also a ton of fun to be social. We’re incredibly honored to be included in exhibits, magazines, lectures and even an upcoming documentary film –humbled really. And along with any good media blitz, there are exceptional people to thank –professionals whose talent and hard work we’re fortunate enough to benefit from. So while this post covers what we’ve been up to lately out there in the world, it’s really a thank you to some amazing people in our community.
As architects and designers we reference a lot of books, some are quite transient and leave just as quickly as they arrive, others stay on our desks and on our shelves. The BUILD Book Report aims to share our favorites, some of them are brand-new and others have been around long enough to pass the test of time.
Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, The Nature of Circumstance, Rizzoli, $95.00
There is a certain caliber of book that the internet will never be able to replace. The latest book on BCJ has been masterfully designed by Pablo Mandel of Circular Studio and published by ORO Editions. Wandering through this book is a gratifying experience – it exemplifies both how architecture should be designed and how the text should communicate built-work and ideas. At 400 + pages, the book is filled with drop-dead gorgeous images, each shot with a clarity that teaches about the mechanics of architecture. A masterful, inspiring book; it has become an immediate favorite of ours.
