@ Charles – Yes, we were concerned about the heat gain on the west facade. The decision to install exterior mounted shades cuts down the heat-gain by 80%.

besides re-using the old foundation, i was curious to know if the design has sustainable attributes? more specifically, were you guys worried about heat gain from the fully exposed glazing on what appears to be the west facade?
