TS - You bring up a good point, Arthur Erickson has a lifetime of work that continues to influence many of us. We've lost a significant role model in the Pacific Northwest. We'll get cranking on a review of his work for the blog - let us know of any projects you feel are particularly significant to his many achievements.

@Gus,
I was just sad to see Erickson's obit that day and then this architecture that reminded me of his work with no mention of his influence on PNW regionalism.

I doubt James Cutler's work will ever not leave me breathless.
Being ecotopian ('9 Nations of North America') doug fir, spruce and cedar always get me.
Being the son of a civil engineer I love elegantly detailed structure.
Being a disciple of the Eameses, making the common classy while staying proletarian, well, be still my heart.
thanks guys.

@TS - these guys aren't claiming that they were the first to recognize these qualities. Your comment has that "I used to walk uphill both ways to school" tone. Queue the grumpy old man.

Good article, but:
"Let’s face it – it’s dark and drizzly in the Northwest for about 8 months out of the year."
"It rains all the time here."

So why is the sky so blue and the sun high on all those pictures? If you really want to demonstrate the effect of this architecture it might be better to take the pictures when in its natural environment.

Stunning examples, but why only subtle colors? Some of my favorite designs use strong punches of bold color (e.g., vibrant oranges and reds), and "chromaphobic" Seattle could use more of it.
