These are fabulous kitchen designs......the kitchen island is a must in our house. It's where our kids sit when they come home from school, and we gather for family conversations. Love it!

Leaving out the upper cabinets makes for a great design, clean and modern if not minimal. I suppose it takes a certain lifestyle/person to include, or should I say not include, this design feature.

Check out the kitchen in this project by Choi-Ropiha in Australia:

thick counter slabs, a la john pawson
http://www.remodelista.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/995b0c0afc878e23f1c93f9ebbc1dd78.jpg

i've seen a lot of houses in seattle recently w/ 3/4" stone countertops. they look flimsy, especially if they cantilever. i prefer a 1.5-2" return.

the hidden mixing valves also make for a nice aesthetic. i think suyama does this as well. must be great to have outrageous budgets!

I thought you all made your own cabinets?! Maybe this is a pre-posting for your future posting of your own kitchen designs. I've noticed that you do that from time to time.
